We in Pluron are great believers in open source. We develop and deploy with open source tools on open source platforms and we were always keen to give something back to the community. We've been sponsoring KDE developer for almost a year, we've released Mediacloth and ActiveReC++. But of course that's not everything we can do.
Acunote was always free for people working on open source projects but not surprisingly in most cases they don't need need a project management tool ;) Nevertheless we found the case when Acunote is a great match for open source projects.
There is Summer of Code program Google is running for the third time now. Students who participate in this program write open source but have their own designated projects with a deadline and a mentor assigned. The mentor needs to keep track of student's progress and has to review his code. And this is when Acunote becomes useful for both mentors and students because of its strong task management and code inspection capabilities.
Having noted that we set up a special Summer of Code signup page to let people see an example of using Acunote for SoC project, subscribe and get their free and unrestricted Acunote SoC accounts. Currently 12 Summer of Code projects already signed up and we of course would like to see even more of them using Acunote this summer.
So, if you are a student working on Summer of Code project or a mentor keeping an eye on such project, try Acunote and get a lightweight and cool software project management tool for free.
